competitions

On competition nights, a visiting judge comments on all images entered in the competition. Merits and Credits are then awarded to the best deserving images in each section. These Merits and Credits are awarded points that contribute to an end of year Point Score.

Print and Projected Image competitions are conducted on seperate nights. Prints are mounted on matte board for display and Projected Images are digitally projected onto a screen.

GUIDE TO COMPETITION DEFINITIONS

OPEN
Any pictorial treatment of a subject which contains the element of good arrangement of composition and reflects the interpretation of the photographer.

PORTRAIT PEOPLE
A photograph of a person or people that may range from a head study to full body length. This section includes candid photographs and formal portraits.

NATURE
A study of living insects, animals or uncultivated plants in their natural state, or depicting a part of their life cycle, geology and phenomena not produced by man. Domesticated animals, cultivated plants etc are not elligible.

LANDSCAPE / SEASCAPE
Landscape - A photograph of natural scenery. Evidence of man, animals or the sea may be included provided they do not dominate the picture. Seascape - A photograph of natural coastal scenery, wave study, or the open sea, where the sea is the main interest. People, boats or other items of marine interest may be present, provided they don’t dominate the picture.

CREATIVE / EXPERIMENTAL
An unusual combination of objects and/or unusual viewpoint. Photographs which have been modified during, or after exposure through digital manipulation.

PROJECTED IMAGE
Digital images are projected onto a screen. Please see the handout for image resizing.
